Congratulations on being longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize. I saw Babygirl and was distracted for most of the two hours trying to remember the name of the movie I remembered him in, the part 2 where Tilda Swinton’s daughter made a film out of her experience with an addict in part 1 (I refused to use my phone in a crowded theater): I kept thinking it was “A” or “The” one-word, and for a moment thought it was The Favourite until I remembered, no, that was Emma Stone, then An Education until I remembered no, that was Carey Mulligan, until finally recalling it was The Souvenir.
Anyhow, I liked the Babygirl club scene best, and agree with this Reijn interview quote (from your piece): “real, shocking sex is about what is in the mind. It’s all suggestion. It’s all imagination...Real sex acts to me onscreen are quite boring.”
